The three boxes of gold

The Crown Prince, the Crown Prince
He wouldn't see beyond the three boxes of gold. He wouldn't and would not.

Three boxes of cardboard he did lay his eyes on but what glitter he saw.

The palace maids could see none of sparkle as did the farmers and peasants who till the land.

But like the merrymen who praised the emperor for the fine clothes that really was not there, the palace maids had nary a choice,

But to retrieve the 3 boxes of cardboard and polished and scrubbed.
